Design and production application of MDF with low formaldehyde emission

Abstract
To reduce the formaldehyde emission of medium density fiberboard (MDF), this paper raises a
design method of MDF with low formaldehyde, i. e. mixing adhesive, adsorbent and composite curing
agent. The production experiment was carried out in the laboratory. Physical mechanical properties and
formaldehyde emission performance of experimental products were examined and analyzed. The results
showed that adhesive applying with adsorbent silanization aluminum oxide was a kind of economical and
feasible method to reduce the formaldehyde emissions of MDF. Physical mechanical properties of MDF
were hardly impacted at all, and the formaldehyde emission was only 0.25 mg/ L, decreased by 47%,
conforming to the requirements of F****on the limit of formaldehyde. Meanwhile, the increased cost of
product is not big, and products have strong market competitiveness.
