Rheological properties of foaming pulp solution from bamboo fibers

    • The rheological properties of foaming pulp solution from bamboo fibers were studied with a Brookfield DV-Ⅲ ULTRA rheometer. Factors affecting rheological properties of liquid-solid two-phase and gas-liquid-solid three-phase bamboo fiber suspensions were analyzed. The results indicated that the both systems have a behavior of pseudoplastic fluid in the category of non-Newtonian fluid, as characterized by the lower apparent viscosity at higher shear rate. In the systems of liquid-solid two-phase bamboo fiber suspensions, the plastic viscosity and yield point increased when raising the pulp concentration, enlarging the axial ratio and decreasing the temperature. In the systems of gas-liquid-solid three-phase bamboo fiber suspensions, the plastic viscosity and yield point also increased when raising the pulp concentration, enlarging the axial ratio and decreasing the temperature. It is recommended that the shear rate is kept over 40 per second to ensure continuous flow of the suspension solution in manufacturing process.
