Influence of fiber-glass on mechanical properties of composite laminates.

    • Using poplar veneer as base material and glass-fiber fabric as reinforcing material, the study made glass-fiber fabric reinforced poplar veneer composite laminates in accordance with the structure principle of laminated veneer lumber. This paper aims to probe into the influence of locations and layer numbers of fiber-glass on the mechanical properties of composite laminates, to which the stress analysis was conducted. The results showed that: 1) the closer the fiber-glass to the surface of the composite laminates was, the higher the modulus of rupture (MOR) and elasticity (MOE) values would be; 2) the MOR and MOE values decreased significantly as the fiber-glass moved to the core of composite laminates; 3) the MOR and MOE values increased when more layers of fiber-glass were added to the composite laminates. In a nutshell, the locations and the numbers of the fiber-glass significantly contribute to the mechanical properties of composite laminates.
