Transverse deflection of circular saw and sawing profile on workpiece

    • The increase in temperature at the edge of saw blade is caused by heating due to the friction between saw blade and the cutting surface of woodpiece.Saw tensioning raises the transverse stiffness and dynamic stability of a saw blade. An infrared thermometer was used in this experiment to detect the temperature difference from flange to edge along the radius of the saw blade when it was heated. Two laser displacement sensors were also used to detect transverse deflection of the saw blade and sawing profile on the woodpiece.Differences in transverse deflection and the sawing profile on woodpiece were observed and studied in this paper at varied temperature differences, under different rotation speeds, and distinct distribution of slots for both tensioned and untensioned saws. The results show that the height of sawing profile on woodpiece increases when the edge of saw blade is heated and thermal buckle beginning. The thermal deflection at the edge of saw blade and the height of sawing profile on woodpiece reduce when saw blade is tensioned or with different slots at the edge.
