Case study on the evaluation of non-economic loss after Hyphantria cunea's invading China

    • Past studies recognized the damage caused by Hyphantria cunea only through the changes of materials such as forest resources, ignoring its social and economic nature. In fact,H.cunea not only damages the natural resources, but also limits multi-functions of host-plants,and it leads to the great loss of version, mental and everyday life, etc.Taking Tianjin,Liaoning,Hebei as the cases,by means of Contigent Value Method(CVM),the paper estimated landscape beauty loss, operative & living loss, and mental infection loss respectively, based on the systematic analysis of these losses.Amongst the analysis of mental infection loss,it established endurance index of larva ratio of H.cunea for the first time, representing people's mental endurance to H.cunea on trees. It is expected to analyze and evaluate the damage and loss systematically and scientifically caused by this invasive species and the common concern from the whole society.
