Abstract
In this paper, with wood flour (WF) and polypropylene (PP) as main raw materials, the WF-PP
flame retardant and anti-static composites (WPC) were prepared by filling modified carbon black (M-
CB) and expandable graphite (EG). The mechanical properties, surface resistivity, flame retardancy,
thermal degradation and cone calorimetry of WPC were investigated. The results indicated that the tensile
strength, flexural strength and Izod impact of WPC with 25% of EG/ M-CB (3 :2) showed an
improvement of 2.0% , 5.2% and 15.6%; the resistivity dropped to 108 ; compared with the blank
sample, the initial decomposition temperature of the composite material increased from 255.0 to 272.5
℃, the maximum decomposition temperature with WF decreased from 349.2 to 287.5 ℃, the maximum
decomposition temperature with PP rised from 448.1 to 477.9 ℃, and the char residue increased from
9.9% to 33.5%; the ignition time increased from 3 to 14 seconds. The total heat release amount
decreased by 56.5% within 500 seconds and carbon residue rate increased five times, showing significant
flame retardant and anti-static performance.
