Abstract
In order to reveal the spatial distribution features of soil erosion of typical counties in DanHan River Watershed of Shaanxi Province, northwestern China, GIS technology was used to obtain the landform features of soil erosion distribution in the case of slope degree, slope direction, elevation and rolling degree in Shiquan and Shangnan counties via overlap of the distribution maps of soil erosion intensity and landform element maps extracted from digital elevation model. The results showed that the degree of soil and water loss in study area was very serious. The soil erosion intensity was mainly light and moderate. The distribution of soil and water loss area percent, soil erosion comprehensive index and soil erosion intensity in the case of different slope degree, elevation and rolling degree was assumed as single peak. The soil and water loss area of flatland was proximal zero. The distribution of soil erosion intensity in the case of different slope directions was not different dramatically. The maximum of different soil erosion intensity increased with the rise of slope degree, but decreased with elevation rising. The distribution features of each soil erosion intensity type in the case of different rolling degrees were similar. These conclusions can provide policy evidence and theory support for making regional plan of soil and water conservation, and treatment of soil erosion and water loss in the middle stream of DanHan River Watershed of Shaanxi Province, northwestern China.
