Abstract:
An exact description of structural attributes is considered to be increasingly important as a basis for continuous cover forest management. The distribution of distances is one of the characteristics of forest spatial structure and a precondition for visualization of forest stands. The paper presents a new method for forecasting the distribution of tree-to-tree distances. The distribution of distances follows Weibull distribution.Weibull parameters
b and
c can be estimated directly and with high precision from the mean and standard deviation of distances.Estimation functions were developed for practical use, enabling foresters to estimate the mean and standard deviation of tree-to-tree distances from the stand density and the Winkelmass mean value, which can be estimated in the course of a routine forest assessment. The models are bias-free with high accuracy.
