Abstract
Production of new poplar varieties is one of the effective methods of preventing trees from damage by stem-borers,such as Anoplophora glabripennis. In this study, transgenic poplar plants containing the Cry3A gene were obtained via an Agrobacterium-mediated method. The transgenic nature of these plants was confirmed by PCR amplification and Southern dot hybridization. The toxicity of these plants to Anoplophora glabripennis larvae has been assessed on two years old selected plants under laboratory conditions. The results indicated that the transgenic line BGA-5 was toxic to A.glabripennis larvae with 30% mortality and could inhibit the growth of A.glabripennis larvae with a 78.46% growth inhibition rate, while others did not show any toxic effect and growth inhibition affecting the larvae.
