Growth strain evaluation in different species of eucalyptus plantation in south China

    • In order to evaluate the growth strain of both standing and fallen trees,a comprehensive research was carried out on eucalyptus trees from 5 plantations in south China, including Eucalyptus urophylla × E. grandis, E. urophylla, E. cloeziana, E. pellita and E. tereticornis. The results showed that: 1) there were highly significant differences in the mean growth strain from circumferential measurements on standing trees among different species; there was little difference in growth strain for the same height with different directions; 2) E. cloeziana, a new species developed for solid wood products, had the lowest growth strain level, but E. urophylla the highest in all five species tested; 3) three was no significant variation in growth strain measurement between standing trees and fallen trees in different species; 4) there was no significant difference in growth strain for tree height.
