Abstract
Surface alkylation was used to improve the hydrophilcity of cellulose nanofibrils. Fourier transform
infrared spectrum fourier, X-ray diffraction analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron
microscope analysis and energy diffraction spectrum were applied to test the alkylated cellulose
nanofibrils. The results showed that coupling reaction occurred between KH-570 and cellulose
nanofibrils; the crystallinity of cellulose nanofibrils fell first and then increased a little with the coupling
agent concentration increased. The surface of cellulose nanofibrils was covered by silicon alcohol or
partial condensation silicon alcohol. And the carbon-oxygen ratio of alkylated cellulose nanofibrils
decreased. There were less hydroxyl groups in alkylated cellulose nanofibrils than in cellulose nanofibrils.
SEM shows that MEMO reacts with cellulose nanofibrls homogeneously.
